Farming Cooperatively

July 25, 2018 - MOFGA Farm Training Project, 5 p.m., New Roots Cooperative Farm, 954 College Road, Lewiston. Come see a cooperative farm in practice and learn about the economic structure of mutual ownership of farmland and equipment, which involves democratic decisions-making among farmer owners about marketing of their produce, as well as about distribution of the surplus they collectively generate. Potluck to follow.

Pasture Walk at Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment

July 25, 2018 – Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m., Burnett Road, Freeport, ME. Learn about the national Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (DGA) program and visit with apprentices on the farm. Also, learn about the organic dairy herd and the new “fly vac” system for fly control. Sponsored by Maine Grass Farmers Network.
