Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA a Success

The fairy house table was busy all day, with kids of all ages making homes for magical beings. Intent on making spoons

Jack Kertesz, MOFGA’s landscape coordinator, and Laura Sieger, MOFGA’s orchard coordinator, set up this cedar log xylophone (“or is it a logaphone?” asks Jack) at Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA – to the delight of all. Make your own garden music by lining up dried logs of different diameters on a base of logs and 1” x 8”s (to keep the end logs from rolling off the two-log-high cradle), and cut short branches to use as mallets. Kertesz included these instructions: “Play with a partner and try and harmonize.” He says the cedar “was waiting to be heard.” Lauren Cormier (left) and Nancy Rosalie harmonized well.

The 7th annual Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA was a great success! More than 450 community members participated and contributed to another wonderful skill-sharing event. The F&H Day committee especially thanks our volunteer workshop leaders for lending their time, skill and materials, as well as everyone who contributed potluck dishes, stone soup ingredients, and plants for the plant swap. Thanks also to the great crew of MOFGA volunteers who helped with setup, breakdown and day-of logistics, and to MOFGA for use of the Common Ground facilities, as well as all your gracious help throughout the year.

Please save the date for the 8th annual Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA: Saturday, June 22, 2019. If you have a hands-on skill you'd like to share as a workshop leader, we are looking for you! Please contact us at farmandhomesteadday@myfairpoint.net.
