Hello! If we haven’t met yet, I hope we meet soon. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you at this year’s Common Ground Country Fair. I’ve attended the Fair several times before, but this year will be a new experience as I’ll be attending in my new role as MOFGA’s executive director.

The Fair is a celebration of everything that MOFGA works toward, and showcases our hopes for the kind of rural communities we can build: sustainable, resilient, thriving and – maybe most importantly – people-powered. It takes thousands of volunteers to make the Fair successful, and it will take even more to build the kinds of food systems and communities we want in Maine and beyond.

From my experience working as a grassroots organizer, I know that the people connected to MOFGA – our staff, board, volunteers and members – are our most valuable resource. Sometimes we may have different ideas about how to get things done, but if we put our collective energies toward a common purpose, we can accomplish great things, just like MOFGA has done for more than 45 years.

As I settle into my new position, I want to meet as many of you as possible to get a solid grounding in the MOFGA community. My job is to listen and ask questions, and gather as much information from our community as I can so that we can develop the roadmap for MOFGA together. Whether you know only about the Fair, or you’re one of our certified organic farmers, or one of the thousands of gardeners or consumers who support MOFGA and organic products, I want you to know that MOFGA will continue to put you first as we grow and build our programs for a resilient and healthy food system in Maine.

If you have ideas that you want to share, please feel free to email me directly at salexander@mofga.org, or if you see me at one of our upcoming events, please come introduce yourself. I look forward to working with you!

Onward together!
