Join Diane Schivera, MOFGA Organic Livestock Specialist and local farmer Everett Ottinger of Nettie Fox Farm who raised the birds, for a workshop about how to process poultry. In this workshop you will be guided through a safe and humane process for turning live birds into oven ready roasters. We'll discuss poultry management, equipment and food safety concerns. Please bring your favorite kitchen knife, an apron, and a willingness to learn. Each participant will take home a bird.

Maine Grass Farmers Network Pasture and Forage Workshops
University of Maine Cooperative Extension is partnering with USDA-NRCS and MOFGA to offer a two-part workshop series on pasture and forage management. The programs will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at Kennebec Cheesery, 795 Pond Road, Sidney, and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at Oaklands Farm, 114 Oaklands Farm Road, Gardiner. Participants will learn about grass-based management systems, including organic and conventional systems, different livestock types, forage harvesting techniques, forage identification, grazing techniques, and tools available to farmers. Host farmers will provide a tour of each farm, and staff from UMaine Cooperative Extension, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service and MOFGA will help lead the discussion and answer questions.
