Welcome to the Agricultural Demonstrations (Ag Demos) Area
of the Common Ground Country Fair!

Talks, Workshops, Demonstrations and Resources for Farmers and Gardeners

A hallmark of Common Ground is the considerable menu of talks and demonstrations on topics pertinent to farmers and gardeners. Whether you are an experienced farmer or gardener looking for insight on a specific topic, a new farmer with questions about business or access to land, or a homesteader looking to diversify your operation, you can find a wealth of agricultural experience and knowledge from the presenters at Common Ground. In addition to the many presentations, organizations that support farmers and rural communities are on hand in the Agricultural Demonstrations Tent to share their knowledge and resources. And MOFGA’s agricultural services and certification staff are in the MOFGA tent throughout the weekend to answer questions about crops, livestock and organic certification.

The Agricultural Demonstrations area is open to individuals and organizations furthering sustainable agriculture and strengthening rural communities. The emphasis in this area is on teaching and demonstrating farming and gardening skills, strengthening agricultural economies and communities, and organization building and networking. To support this purpose, we offer exhibit space as well as opportunities for participants to present topical educational talks and demonstrations.

 AgDemo Coordinators Needed Minimize

The Ag Demo area needs coordinators now and during the Fair. If you're interested in helping out, please email the Fair staff at commonground@mofga.org or call 207-568-4142.

Here's where we need help:

Speaker and Exhibitor Recruitment: Coordinators help determine what topics we want to present and the speakers and identify speakers and demonstrators for the Fair.

Application Review: Coordinators help evaluate applications for exhibits, talks and demonstrations.

Ag Demo Tent and Booth Set-up: On the Wednesday before the Fair, coordinators map out exhibitor booth space, set up tables and chairs in the speaker tents, and post signs.

Speaker Tents During the Fair: Litchfield (speakers tent), Windsor (speakers tent), the Ag Demonstrations Exhibitors Tent and the AV Tent. We need one coordinator for each tent for two shifts each day. Responsibilities include helping orient speakers, introducing speakers, keeping speakers on schedule. AV tent volunteers should be acquainted with operation of slide projectors and computer presentation hook up with digital projectors. Coordinators give presenters their t-shirts or honorarium checks and meals ticket at the conclusion of each talk. Coordinators keep the area organized in general and keep schedule boards up-to-date with changes and cancellations.

Seed Cleaning During the Fair: We have seed cleaning equipment on display and we like to demonstrate it and allow fairgoers to have their seed cleaned. Coordinators should be familiar with operating seed cleaning equipment that we have demonstrated at the Fair in the past.
