Know Your Organic Producers!

Mousam Valley Mushrooms is a family farm started by father John Sharood, son Robert Sharood and daughter Emily Sharood. The MOFGA certified organic farm is located above the Mousam River Valley in Springvale, inside an old historic dairy barn that has been renovated into the mushroom farm. The Sharoods sustainably grow and market healthy, innovative, organic oyster mushrooms, including an Italian, Pink, Butter, and a Katahdin oyster that is a native Maine strain. Mushrooms are delivered within 24 to 48 hours of harvest and are grown exclusively for the New England area, making them truly fresh and local. Mousam Valley wholesales to Whole Foods Market, Hannaford Supermarket, Crown O' Maine and Rosemont Market. The Sharood family says, "At Mousam Valley, we strive to grow mushrooms as close to wild as possible. Six years later, Roth and his wife, Kelly, preside over an expanding business. By Melodie Warner - Fiscal second-quarter earnings for Cal-Maine Foods Inc. fell 39% due to higher feed costs (resulting from the summer drought, which raised corn prices to record highs) and acquisition expenses. Cal-Maine is the largest U.S. producer and distributor of fresh-shell eggs. Its brands include Eggland's Best, Farmhouse and 4-Grain.
