Echoing Big Agribusiness, Farmers Sue Monsanto

Tearing a page out of Monsanto's own playbook, the Public Patent Foundation (PUBPAT), an advocacy group whose mandate is to represent the public's interest in the patent system, filed suit (PDF) on behalf of 60 organic farmers, small farm organizations, and seed businesses this week against the litigious agrichemical and genetically modified (GM) seed giant.

No quick subsidies fix for food system

By Wenonah Hauter – According to the Environmental Working Group, just 10 percent of farms collect nearly 75 percent of federal farm subsidies. But what this statistic doesn’t reveal is that between 1995 and 2009, nearly half of the top 20 recipients of farm payments were cooperatives, Indian tribes, and conservation trusts – organizations that often divvy up payments amongst their members.
