- John Scharr

Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
If you build good habits, the kids will come along
Portland Press Herald - 7/14/2010.
By Anne Mahle – I thought we had two sorts of eaters in my family's younger sector. One tries most anything once and says she loves to eat. The other eats maybe one good meal out of six and consistently says – before she's tried something – "I don't like that." In other words, I thought we had a picky eater.
Tainted cereal exposes soggy food-safety system
Grist - 7/13/2010.
By Tom Philpott – On June 25, Kellogg's issued a "voluntary recall" of 28 million boxes of its breakfast cereals, including Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, and Honey Smacks. The company revealed it had detected an "uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package" of the suspect cereal and warned of "possible temporary symptoms, including nausea and diarrhea" from eating it.
G-M blight-resistant potatoes – who needs them?
Institute for Science in Society - 7/12/2010.
Dr Eva Novotny – While researchers are wasting taxpayers’ money to create hazardous GM blight-resistant potatoes, non-GM highly blight-resistant varieties are already on the market, with low carbon impact and all-round appeal to consumers.
Meet the food industry front groups that push for carcinogens in your food
Alternet - 7/12/2010.
By Jill Richardson – Pseudoscience, front groups and smear campaigns against scientists questioning industrial agriculture are used to convince the public that chemical-ridden food is safe.
