Our yearly Spring Growth Conference is a daylong event that digs deeply into topics that impact farmers, whether a specific crop, technique or management practice. The 2016 conference will focus on the basis of farming: soils.

Maple syrup school gives Maine taste of respect

By Doug Harlow – Skowhegan: The largest maple syrup-producing county in the nation finally is getting some respect. The International Maple Syrup Institute, based in Ontario, will hold its sixth annual maple grading school in Skowhegan on Thursday and Friday. The two-day course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
Agricultural learning center growing towards fruition

By Ann S. Kim – Despite fundraising challenges, the coalition that's planning a sustainable agriculture educational center at Tidewater Farm in Falmouth hopes to break ground next summer. The Tidewater Farm Regional Learning Center would be on 32 protected acres near the Presumpscot River Estuary. The 6,800-square-foot facility envisioned by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, the Cumberland County Extension Association and the Tidewater Farm Conservation Foundation would have classrooms, public spaces and the new Cumberland County headquarters for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
