Maine Heritage Orchard Workday at MOFGA

Postponed to Saturday, April 19 - 9 a.m., Unity, rain or shine

Plant 102 heirloom apples and hundreds of companion plants at the Maine Heritage Orchard. Volunteers will be on hand to teach planting. No charge - Everyone welcome! Bring your own lunch. If possible, please bring shovels, rakes and wheel barrows! If you are attending, please RSVP by emailing Anna Libby (alibby@mofga.org) or by calling the MOFGA office (207) 568-4142.

French court cancels ban on Monsanto GMO maize

France's highest court on Monday overturned a ban on the growth and use in France of a genetically modified (GM) maize developed by U.S. biotech company Monsanto, saying the farm ministry lacked the authority to impose the measure.
Maine land trust effort still strong

By Mechele Cooper – All 99 Maine land trusts took part in a nationwide census that found 10 million new acres of land has been conserved since 2005, despite a down economy. The 2010 Land Trust Alliance Census said endowments to ensure that land remains protected at local and state levels more than doubled, and operating endowments – an indicator of the staying power of these organizations – almost tripled.
