Michigan Study Finds Hazardous Chemicals In Gardening Water Hoses
Healthy Stuff - 5/7/2013.
High levels of hazardous chemicals, many of which have been banned in children’s products, were found in garden hoses for the second year in row. Phthalates and the toxic chemical BPA were all found in the water of a new hose after sitting outside in the sun for just a few days, according to researchers at the Ann Arbor-based Ecology Center, which has just completed a study of toxic chemicals in garden hoses.

Foreign Food Inspections on Decline as Illnesses From Imported Goods Rise
New York Times - 5/7/2013.
By Ron Nixon - Inside a warehouse near the Canadian border, boneless hams bound for Philadelphia are coming off a tractor-trailer from Toronto under the gaze of a federal food inspector. GM Crops and Water - A Recipe for Disaster
Institute for Science in Society - 5/6/2013.
By Dr Eva Sirinathsinghji - Genetically Modified (GM) crops are widely recognised for their potential to damage both human health and the environment. Evidence is now accumulating of the contamination of streams, rivers, rain, as well as groundwater with GM-associated chemicals including Monsanto’s glyphosate-based herbicide, while genetic elements such as antibiotic resistant genes are emerging in water-borne microbes. Further, GM crops have been shown to be less water efficient, corroborating farmer’s reports of failing GM crops during droughts.
