Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
5 of the Newest and Craziest Genetically Modified Foods
Alternet - 12/10/2010.
By Sara Novak – Who would have known 20 years ago that so many of the foods that we eat would be produced in a lab rather than nature? Scientifically designed seeds are becoming a larger than ever portion of our diet and for the most part, it's difficult for the consumer to even realize it because of a lack of labeling.
On restoring the oceans
Seed Magazine - 12/9/2010.
By Enric Sala & Kristin Rechberger – The ocean – our major life-support system – is endangered. And it cannot be reimagined or redesigned, as it is too vast and complex for us to re-create from scratch. It must be restored to sustainable levels.
House Advances Food Safety Bill
Food Safety News - 12/9/2010.
By Helena Bottemiller – Food safety legislation inched forward Wednesday as the House passed the Senate version of the bill as part of a larger resolution to fund the federal government for the next several months. The bill, which passed the House 212-206 with 35 Democrats joining Republicans to vote "no," must now be re-approved by the Senate.
Legislature will have a chance to control controversial chemical
Portland Press Herald - 12/9/2010.
By Gene J. Kucinkas Jr. – Falmouth: Protecting the health of our children from preventable causes of learning disabilities is good for Maine families, good for our communities and good for our economic future.
