Maine mothers speak out against controversial chemical bisphenol-A
Kennebec Journal - 8/20/2010.
By Susan Cover – Augusta: Cheryl Denis of Portland is worried about the health of her two young girls. She testified Thursday before the state's Board of Environmental Protection in support of proposed rules to ban the sale of baby bottles, sippy cups and sports bottles that contain the chemical bisphenol-A.
Three pillars of a food revolution
Grist - 8/19/2010.
Anna Lappe – A few years ago, I stumbled on a United Nations study that transformed how I think about the climate crisis. In the report, researchers pegged greenhouse gases from the livestock sector at 18 percent of total global emissions. Combine this with other aspects of our food chain – from agricultural chemical production to agribusiness driven deforestation to food waste rotting in landfills – and food and agriculture sector is responsible for nearly one third of the planet's manmade emissions.
A ‘habitual offender’unleashes nearly half a billion salmonella-tainted eggs
Grist - 8/19/2010.
By Tom Philpott – As a jaded observer of the livestock industry, I just sighed when I learned the scale of the current salmonella-tainted egg recall: 380 million eggs, distributed under 10 different brands in 17 different states, all from a single producer – Iowa-based Wright County Farms. Another day, another industrial-ag gaffe imperiling the health of millions. But then William Neuman's New York Times piece hipped me to the name of the owner of Wright County Farms: one Austin "Jack" DeCoster. That's when my sigh became a gasp.

Bangor Daily News - 8/19/2010.
AP – Augusta: Maine environmental regulators are considering a proposal to ban the chemical bisphenol-A from baby bottles, sippy cups, water bottles and other reusable food and beverage containers.
