News from MOFGA’s 2023 Annual Meeting

MOFGA held its annual membership meeting online on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 7 p.m. The meeting included reports on MOFGA’s accomplishments and financial performance in 2022, sharing the 2023 Common Ground Country Fair poster design, and highlighting success stories from each department. Successes shared included MOFGA’s response to the PFAS crisis: raising over $1.3 million in emergency relief funds for farmers directly impacted by PFAS contamination and distributing $876,000, and helping to pass legislation that protects Mainers from future contamination. Another highlight was the Common Ground Country Fair: It was held in person for the first time in two years with a record-breaking 68,000 fairgoers and 2,000 volunteers. Additionally, thousands of MOFGA community members participated in community education events, including Bread and Brews and Great Maine Apple Day.

MOFGA’s membership voted to approve the 2023 slate of nominees for the board of directors, welcoming four new nominees: Seth Kroeck of Brunswick, Martha Leggat of North Yarmouth, Abe Noyes of Southwest Harbor and Jo D. Saffeir of Pownal. Read their bios here.

MOFGA extends our deepest appreciation and respect to Stacy Brenner, JoAnn Myers, Beth Richardson, Beth Schiller and David Shipman for their service as board members over the past many years. MOFGA’s community also continues to grieve the passing of Logan Johnston in May of 2022, holding his memory and service close in our hearts.
