Gretchen Huettner and her family are working to improve their pastures with a diversity of animals and crops. Learn about their attempts to bring back old pastures into better production! (Optional potluck supper after walk)

Wednesday, July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Learn about the national Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (DGA) program and visit with apprentices on the farm. Also, learn about the organic dairy herd and the new “fly vac” system for fly control.

Monday, July 30 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Fred custom grazes heifers on the land that used to be an organic dairy farm. Learn some of Fred’s tried and true no-nonsense methods for pasture management.

C.J. Walke is the farm manager at the College of the Atlantic farm in Bar Harbor. The farm has a diverse mix of livestock. Learn about how C.J. manages the fields and livestock at the beautiful Peggy Rockefeller Farms.

 

David Greeley
291 Hatch Rd, Jackson, ME
Sunday, September 9 from 4-6 pm

David has been grazing beef cows on the farm in Jackson for many years. Learn about his cow and fertility management on the beautiful farm in Jackson. Starting in 1994, there have been 4 bio-mass harvests totaling about 60 acres that are now in hay or pasture. In addition are over 100 acres of silvopasture helping support 40 brood cows and their calves.
