MOFGA Volunteer Page

Many Opportunities Exist Throughout the Year and YOU Choose Your Commitment Level!

We need volunteers for just about all of MOFGA’s programs. Each program has a committee to set policy and map out a workplan. Most committees meet on a regular basis (usually monthly or every other month depending on seasonal program activities) to discuss challenges and priorities facing the many different program areas. You don't have to attend committee meetings to volunteer, although the meetings are always open to the public and committee members are always interested in hearing ideas from new MOFGA volunteers.

Event Set-Up and Take-Down

From Spring Growth to Small Farm Field Days to the Maine Food Festival, there is a lot of behind the scenes work to be done to host these events.

If You Have A Hammer…

and know how to use it, then we'd love to have you build some bookshelves for our library! or maybe you would prefer to build some nice sturdy benches to provide more seating for our Fairgoers? We always have a wide variety of on and off site carpentry projects that are just waiting for your toolbox. Go on and put that new power tool you got for Christmas to good use!

Or A Wrench

We also need help with a lot of utilities maintenance and repairs. If you have skills in plumbing, electricity, mechanics or other skilled trades and have a little bit of time on your hands, your skills will be most welcome here.

Help Your Neighbor…

learn how to grow organically! On April 6, MOFGA will be hosting a Grow Your Own Organic Garden workshop at over a dozen locations throughout the state. If you are interested in helping instruct one of these courses in your area, give us a call! No Licking Required Come help the friendly MOFGA staff with one of our periodic 'big' mailings.

Come Get a Little Dirty…

or a lot dirty! Either way, we need help maintaining the health and beauty of our perennial and herb gardens, the orchard, and the shade trees around MOFGA's property in Unity.

Or Stay Nice & Clean

We need someone to come in periodically and make photocopies of articles or other things of note out of publications that have been flagged to be copied and filed.

Join A MOFGA Committee

Get involved in the ongoing discussions on policy and priorities for one (or more!) of MOFGA's many committees. Most committees meet on a regular basis and are always open to the public.

Help Spread the Word!

MOFGA's quarterly newspaper, the MOF&G, is always trying to reach a broader audience. Help us locate new distributors and new advertisers for our nationally acclaimed publication.

Share the Wealth

of your knowledge! If you are knowledgeable and/or experienced in organic growing techniques then MOFGA needs you to help us with our many educational events throughout the year.

Keep Us Organized

and get to read lots of interesting articles! Our periodicals need to be kept logged and organized. Come in periodically, read what's new, and make our library more useful!

unCommon Ground Country Fair

Believe it or not, it takes nearly 200 volunteers working year round on planning and coordinating all the different areas of the Fair to make it all come together every September. We're always looking for new blood to join the team and help keep this nearly 30 year tradition thriving. The Common Ground Country Fair Planning Team is especially looking for new members to help coordinate the following areas: Environmental Concerns, Goat and Sheep Barn, Agricultural Demonstrations, Crafts, and Sign Making.

Not a People Person?

Then perhaps research and writing are more your things. Our Agricultural Services Department and MOFGA Certification Services LLC are in need of researchers who work well independently (and for free) for a variety of research topics. Examples include researching an organic seed list, producing reference materials for growers, and updating the organic honey and maple standards.
