Over the course of 10 years, with the help of countless dedicated volunteers, a steep rocky hillside in Unity has become a beautiful, thriving organic orchard. This year marks the 10th anniversary of a dream come to life, the establishment of a one-of-kind preservation orchard dedicated to protecting Maine’s heritage tree fruits. The Maine Heritage Orchard now boasts over 300 rare apple varieties and 20 heritage pear varieties that otherwise may have gone extinct, making it a critical repository for some of the most unusual apples in the Northeast.
