Kitchen Licensing: Online Format

Two Parts: Part 1: August 13, Thursday, 2-4 p.m., Part 2: August 19, Wednesday, 4-6 p.m. Fee: $30; $20 for MOFGA members. Scholarships available - please email [email protected] for details!. We're taking this annual workshop for new or aspiring food business operators online! This workshop is designed for farmers and others interested in home food processing for resale or beginning to sell new value-added products. Licensing requirements, food safety, liability insurance, labeling and organic certification requirements will all be covered. Normally, this is a full day, in-person workshop. Starting Up! Accessing Resources As a Beginning Farmer

MOFGA Farm Training Project

Wednesday, September 2, 2020 – 5 p.m. on Zoom. Finding a place and resources to farm can be a huge challenge. Whether you’re working as a farm hand, manager or apprentice it is never too soon to consider your options. Abby Sadauckas, Maine field agent for Land For Good and farmer of Apple Creek Farm in Bowdoinham will talk through how to start thinking about your future farm, the land base you’ll need and the variety of ways to achieve your farm dream. Growing Mushrooms Outdoors

Postponed to 2021. Fee: $55; $40 for MOFGA members. Mushrooms are delicious nutritional powerhouses and a great addition to homestead garden. Learn how to approach mushroom growing outdoors, on logs, and practice inoculating logs harvested from MOFGA's woodlot. Contact [email protected] with questions.

Carbon Conversation: The Forest's Role in Storing and Sequestering Carbon

October 4, 2020 – Sunday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Law Farm, 20 Lee Cemetery Road, Dover Foxcroft. Free, but pre-registration required. This workshop, co-sponsored by Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District, will explore carbon sequestration and how it occurs in our forests. We'll tour the Law Farm woodlot, learn about how carbon is measured, and discuss forestry practices from a carbon perspective. Participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of management strategies they can use to hold and increase carbon stocks in their woodlots. REGISTRATION
