Meet Phil Cuddeback of Phil's Farm in Eliot. Cuddeback grows MOFGA-certified organic vegetables for the farm's CSA and for summer farmers’ markets in Portsmouth, Kittery and York.  He is in his second year of running his own farm on leased land and ultimately plans to find his own farm in Maine where he can produce organic food. Cuddeback says he uses organic practices because they are good for the environment, the consumers and the people who grow the food. He adds, "I can stand behind my food knowing that it was grown in a healthy ecosystem and has not been sprayed with any harmful chemicals." (He does not use any pesticides.) These practices are also key for his own health. He is not exposed to dangerous chemicals, and he gets to exercise in the fresh air every day. He hopes to lend guidance and help others start farms too because "we always need more small farms!" Photo by Liars Bench Beer Company, used with permission
