Join Willie Crosby of Fungi Ally, located in Montague, Massachusetts, and the growers at North Spore Mushrooms in Westbrook, Maine, for this "primer" on small-scale, commercial mushroom cultivation. Willie will begin by discussing the specialty mushroom industry and upcoming opportunities for small scale farmers in New England. Then he will delve into three methods of mushroom cultivation that are viable for a small-to-medium scale commercial operations. Many of these techniques and methods could also be applied by growers and homesteaders at a community level.

In the second part of the afternoon we will tour North Spore Mushrooms, a local producer of mushrooms and cultivation supplies, including spawn. The tour of the facility will begin at 2:30. This will be a great opportunity to see a medium-sized diversified mushroom operation from the inside, and gain a more in-depth understanding of what it takes to grow mushrooms.
