What’s in Weed-n-Feed Lawn Products?

June 1, 2018

Many homeowners don’t realize that the “weed” part of “Weed-n-Feed” lawn treatment products relates to herbicides – weed killers such as 2,4-D, which can harm children, adults and pets.

You don’t need those products, or their soluble synthetic fertilizers, to grow a good lawn. Read MOFGA’s fact sheet “Establishing and Caring for an Organic Lawn” to learn how to meet plant needs through proper soil fertility, good soil structure, soil organic matter and proper watering and mowing.

Want your neighbors to follow suit? Put out a “Pesticide-Free Zone” lawn sign, available from Beyond Pesticides, or make your own sign. Beyond Pesticides also sells packets of 25 door hangers to use around your neighborhood to “spread the word about lawn pesticides and alternatives with minimal confrontation.”
