Over the course of four decades, more than 100,000 students, from kindergarten through college levels, have stepped out of their formal classrooms and attended MOFGA’s Common Ground Country Fair for free to learn about organic farming and gardening and living in harmony with our natural world.

Our “Free Admission for Students on Friday” opportunity has particularly good timing this year as it coincides with the Global Climate Strike on September 20.

Maine’s students – You are our future! We welcome you to raise your voices in support of life on earth!

Maine’s teachers and school administrators – Thank you for sharing your precious students and time with the Common Ground Country Fair! We hope you’ll join us again this year.

Please bring earth- and community-friendly signs and join one of three parades scheduled for Friday:

  • 10 a.m. – Bicycle and Pedestrian Parade. Gather at 9:45 at the Valet Bicycle Parking Area on the north side of the fairgrounds, near the Rose Gate.
  • 2 p.m. – Bicycle and Pedestrian Parade. Details as above, but gather at 1:45.
  • 2:30 p.m. – Garden Parade. Gather at 2:15 at the Folk Arts II Tent. Please wait at this location for the arrival of the families in garden costumes, and then join the ongoing parade.

There are more than 750 educational talks and workshops explaining sustainability practices that we can incorporate into our day-to-day living. See our online schedule and plan your future!

Agriculture that is practiced in harmony with natural systems and that preserves biodiversity reduces human impact on the environment. Sustainable organic agriculture is a powerful tool in the struggle against global climate change. MOFGA supports global climate change initiatives that:

  • Promote organic and sustainable husbandry of soils, crops, livestock and forests;
  • Protect biodiversity;
  • Build healthy soils;
  • Improve and protect water quality;
  • Minimize the transportation of agricultural products;
  • Strengthen relationships between growers and consumers; and
  • Promote local food production and global food security.
